The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has expressed satisfaction with Team Nigeria’s performances at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, describing the country’s showing as a reflection of strategic planning, improved athlete preparation and the renewed commitment to excellence in Nigerian sports.
Speaking from the Games Village, Olopade said the performances recorded so far have justified the Commission’s investment in athlete welfare, technical support and high-performance programmes, noting that Team Nigeria has continued to compete with determination against some of the best athletes across the Commonwealth.
The NSC boss commended the athletes, coaches and support personnel for their discipline and resilience, stressing that every Nigerian representative has demonstrated the fighting spirit synonymous with the country’s sporting tradition.
According to him, the impressive outings by Team Nigeria have not only boosted the nation’s medal aspirations but have also reinforced Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations.
Olopade maintained that the Commission remains focused on creating an enabling environment for athletes to excel on the global stage, adding that the current performances are evidence that ongoing reforms in sports administration are beginning to yield positive results.
He urged the athletes to remain focused and avoid complacency as the competition enters its decisive stages, emphasizing that every event presents another opportunity to improve Nigeria’s position on the medals table.
The Director General also appreciated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for their unwavering support, noting that the encouragement from fans continues to inspire the athletes to give their best.
He expressed confidence that Team Nigeria will finish the Games strongly, with more podium appearances expected as several of the country’s medal hopefuls are still scheduled to compete.
Olopade reaffirmed the National Sports Commission’s commitment to sustaining athlete development programmes, strengthening grassroots sports and ensuring Nigeria remains a formidable force in international competitions.
