Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and News Direct State Correspondent, Comrade Dave Okpogadie, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the journalism profession and Delta State.
Okpogadie died on Saturday after a prolonged battle with jaw cancer, an illness he fought courageously for more than two years.
In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, colleagues in the media, and all who were touched by the late journalist’s life and work.
Governor Oborevwori described Okpogadie as a seasoned journalist whose professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to ethical journalism earned him widespread respect across the media industry.
According to the governor, the late journalist distinguished himself through his dedication to truth, balanced reporting, and service to society, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire younger journalists.
He also commended Okpogadie’s courage, resilience, and steadfast faith throughout his prolonged illness, noting that his determination in the face of adversity served as an inspiration to family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, colleagues, and members of the NUJ Delta State Council the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
