ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the official timetable for political campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Elections, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
Under the approved schedule, campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on Tuesday, August 19, 2026, and end on January 15, 2027, exactly 24 hours before the elections slated for January 16, 2027.
For the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, campaigns are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, and conclude on Friday, February 5, 2027, a day before the polls fixed for February 6, 2027.
INEC stated that the timetable complies with the Electoral Act 2026, which permits political campaigns to begin no earlier than 150 days before an election and requires all campaign activities to cease at least 24 hours before voting.
The commission warned that political parties, candidates and their supporters must not embark on campaign activities before the approved dates, stressing that any violation of the Electoral Act could attract sanctions.
According to INEC, the revised timetable supersedes the earlier election schedule and provides the legal framework for campaign activities, including rallies, media advertisements, voter engagement and grassroots mobilization.
The electoral body urged all political parties, candidates and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the approved timetable to ensure peaceful, credible and transparent elections across the country.
