DELTA @ 35: OBorevwori Credits Peace, Unity for State’s Remarkable Development

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has attributed the remarkable progress recorded in the state over the past 35 years to sustained peace, unity and the contributions of successive administrations and the people of Delta.
The Governor stated this at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the creation of Delta State.
Oborevwori described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the state, reflect on its journey and renew the collective commitment to building a more prosperous and peaceful Delta.
He expressed gratitude to God for His grace and protection over the state, while commending Deltans for maintaining peace and contributing to the growth and development of the state.
According to him, the progress recorded in Delta was the result of the contributions of successive governments, political leaders and citizens who had played significant roles in shaping the state.
The Governor paid tribute to past military administrators and civilian governors, noting that each administration had contributed a chapter to the history and development of Delta State.
He also recognised the contributions of the various ethnic nationalities, religious groups and non-indigenes living in the state, stressing that the diversity of Delta remained one of its greatest strengths.
Oborevwori said his administration would build on the foundations laid by previous governments while ensuring that more opportunities and improved living conditions were created for the people.
“Gratitude for the past must be accompanied by responsibility for the future,” the Governor said, assuring that his administration would continue to consolidate previous achievements while doing more for Deltans.
He said the administration’s vision was to build a Delta State that is more peaceful, prosperous, secure, inclusive and competitive, with greater capacity to take advantage of future opportunities.
The Governor listed infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture and technology among the key priority areas of his administration.
He added that the government would continue to strengthen institutions, support businesses and create an enabling environment for young people to realise their potential.
Oborevwori further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to an inclusive governance structure, noting that government would continue to collaborate with traditional and religious leaders, political stakeholders, civil society organisations, organised labour, the private sector, women and communities across the state.
He particularly commended Deltans for sustaining peace, describing it as a major factor responsible for the development being witnessed across the state.
“The peace we are enjoying today has brought development. If there were crises in the state, I don’t think we would be talking about the level of development we are witnessing today,” he said.
The Governor expressed optimism that Delta State would become even more developed by the time it marks its 40th anniversary.
In his sermon titled, “The Uniqueness of the Christian Faith,” the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Asaba, Ven. Charles Osemenam, urged Deltans to strengthen their relationship with God and remain steadfast in faith.
Osemenam described the 35th anniversary as a moment of thanksgiving and reflection, urging the people to acknowledge God’s role in the state’s journey and continue to seek divine guidance.
The thanksgiving service was attended by the Wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; and other senior government officials.
