Chairman of the Delta State Teqball Association, Comrade Dick Marvel, has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, saying the athletes are determined to secure places at the ninth World Teqball Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from December 1 to 6, 2026.
The team is currently training at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, where coach Alex Akpoguma says the athletes are in good shape and focused on the task ahead.
The players representing Delta State are Victor Oyemade, ranked Nigeria’s number one, Rejoice Jatau, Mikel Enebechukwu, Ogheneegare Ovuirooro, Efemena Ekeke and Miracle Edafe.
Marvel says the team is approaching the qualifiers with discipline, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship, expressing optimism that the athletes will deliver strong performances and earn the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
He also commended the Delta State Government for its continued support for sports development under the MORE Agenda, noting the importance of sustained investment in nurturing talent and creating opportunities for athletes to excel.
The association chairman further acknowledged the leadership and support of the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, for promoting sporting excellence and supporting Delta athletes in national and international competitions.
Marvel also praised the organisers of the Aba qualifiers for providing a platform for athletes to compete for places at the world championships.
He extended his appreciation to the President of the Nigeria Teqball Federation, Engineer Habu Ahmed Gumel, for his efforts towards the growth and development of teqball in the country.
The Delta State Teqball Association chairman called on Deltans, sports enthusiasts, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to support the team as it seeks to secure qualification.
Marvel said the team’s ambition is to perform strongly in Aba and earn the right to fly Nigeria’s flag at the championship in Hungary.
The qualifiers will provide Team Delta with an important opportunity to test its preparation against other competitors as it pursues a place at the global competition.
