SWAN CONGRESS: AZUKA CHIEMEKA RE-ELECTED SOUTH-SOUTH VICE PRESIDENT FOR SECOND TERM

Kaduna — The Deputy General Manager, News and Current Affairs, Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Warri, and Head of the Sports Unit, Azuka Chiemeka, has been re-elected Vice President, South-South Zone of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for a second three-year term.
Chiemeka was returned unopposed during the 2026 National Triennial Delegates Congress of SWAN, held in Kaduna on Friday, August 28, 2026.
His re-election represents a renewed vote of confidence from sports writers across the South-South Zone and acknowledges his commitment to the growth, unity and welfare of members, as well as the promotion of sports journalism in the region.
A seasoned broadcaster and sports journalist, Chiemeka has continued to play an active role in advancing sports reporting and strengthening professional collaboration among sports writers in the South-South.
His second-term mandate will provide an opportunity to consolidate on the achievements of his first tenure and pursue initiatives aimed at improving the welfare, professional development and visibility of SWAN members across the zone.
Meanwhile, the incumbent National President of SWAN, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, was also re-elected unopposed for a second three-year term.
The congress also produced Nyong Bonny Silas as Deputy President after he defeated Chigozie Chukwuleta, while Samuel Gangwaja of Adamawa State emerged Vice President, North-East, defeating the incumbent, Ahmed Kagana Amshi.
Other zonal vice presidents elected are Zaharadeen Saleh (North-West), Ikemefuna Asika (South-East), and Ayodeji Ogunsakin (South-West).
The newly elected National Executive Council members were subsequently sworn into office, formally commencing another three-year tenure.
With the elections concluded, the new leadership is expected to focus on strengthening SWAN, promoting unity among members and improving the welfare and professional standing of sports journalists across Nigeria.
