FUPRE Set For Environmental Lecture As Prof. Duke Okoro Tackles Pollution Challenges

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has announced plans for its 14th Inaugural Lecture, with renowned environmental scholar and Rector of Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Prof. Duke Okoro, scheduled to deliver a keynote discourse on environmental protection and sustainability.
The lecture, titled “Decoding Pollution in a Petroleum Nation: The Role of Environmental Analytical Chemistry in Safeguarding Nigeria’s Environment,” will examine the growing environmental concerns associated with petroleum exploration and industrial activities in Nigeria, while also highlighting the importance of scientific research in ecosystem preservation.
Prof. Okoro, a Professor of Environmental Analytical Chemistry and respected authority in pollution control, environmental risk management and sustainable development, is expected to provide deep scholarly insights into strategies for protecting the nation’s environment amid rising ecological challenges.
The academic gathering will hold under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor of FUPRE, Prof. Ezekiel O. Agbalagba.
According to the university management, the inaugural lecture is aimed at promoting intellectual engagement on environmental sustainability and the critical role of science in addressing pollution-related issues in a petroleum-based economy.
The event is slated for Friday, May 29, 2026, at the New 500-Capacity Auditorium, FUPRE, by 12 noon, while guests are expected to be seated by 11:30 a.m.
FUPRE also disclosed that the lecture would be streamed live via its YouTube channel and Google Meet platform to enable wider participation.
