ABUJA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman at the party’s 8th National Convention, reaffirming confidence in his leadership as it positions for future electoral contests.
The convention, held in Abuja, also saw the entire National Working Committee (NWC) returned unopposed through a consensus arrangement, ratified by an overwhelming voice vote of delegates. The party leaders were subsequently sworn in to pilot the affairs of the ruling party for another four-year term.
The exercise, which drew party faithful, stakeholders and top government functionaries from across the federation, was largely peaceful and marked by a show of unity among party ranks.
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda pledged to run an inclusive, transparent and purpose-driven administration, promising to consolidate on the gains of the party while addressing internal challenges. He stressed the need to deepen internal democracy, strengthen party structures at all levels and ensure greater participation of members in decision-making processes.
“We are committed to building a stronger, more united APC that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians,” he said, assuring that his leadership would prioritize accountability and cohesion within the party.
The APC chairman further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting the policies and programmes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that sustained collaboration between the party and government remains critical to delivering democratic dividends to citizens.
Yilwatda expressed optimism that the APC would continue to broaden its support base across the country, attract new members and consolidate its dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say the consensus re-election of the party’s leadership signals a strategic move to maintain stability within the ruling party while focusing on governance and future electoral success.
