The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, following their historic qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Motsepe described the achievement as a proud moment for Africa and African football, commending the young Nigerian side for reaching a milestone never before attained by any African country in the competition.

The Flamingos secured their place in the final after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday’s semi-final, earning Nigeria its first-ever appearance in the tournament’s final.

CAF confirmed that Motsepe will travel to Rabat, Morocco, to watch Nigeria take on Japan in Saturday’s final, scheduled for November 7, at 6:30 p.m. local time.

The historic feat also marks the first time an African team has reached the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Ghana finished third in 2012, while Nigeria claimed the bronze medal in 2022, with both countries defeating Germany in the third-place matches.

The Flamingos will now aim to make further history by becoming the first African champions of the competition.
