Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will take on Brazil today in a crucial semi-final clash at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, as they seek a historic first-ever appearance in the final.

The Flamingos booked their place in the last four following a narrow one-nil victory over Venezuela, courtesy of an 89th-minute penalty converted by captain Azeezat Oduntan.

The victory marked only Nigeria’s second semi-final appearance in the competition, having reached the same stage in 2022, where they eventually won bronze.

Coach Akeem Busari’s side will now face a determined Brazilian team that defeated China two-one in the quarter-finals after coming from behind.

Brazil also survived a dramatic penalty shootout against Poland in the round of sixteen, winning eight-seven following a three-all draw.

Brazilian coach Rilany Silva has described Nigeria as a physically strong opponent, while Busari has urged his players to maintain their determination and give their best.

The encounter is scheduled for the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, with kick-off at seven o’clock Nigerian time.
