2027: Delta Ijaw Rally Behind Tinubu, Oborevwori at Grand Bomadi Reception

The Ijaw nation in Delta State, on Wednesday, formally threw its weight behind Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sheriff Oborevwori for re-election in 2027, in what emerged as the highpoint of a grand reception organised in honour of the governor.
The event, hosted by the Ijaw National Congress in Bomadi, attracted a large gathering of political leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders and members of the Ijaw nation from within and outside the state.
The endorsement followed a motion moved by the member representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Julius Pondi, urging Ijaw people to support both Tinubu and Oborevwori for a second term. The motion was seconded by Delta State lawmaker Oboro Preyor and subsequently put to a voice vote by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, receiving unanimous approval.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the traditional title Izonebimiewei (the man that does good) on Governor Oborevwori by the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum, in recognition of his administration’s developmental strides across Ijaw communities.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Oborevwori expressed gratitude for the honour and overwhelming support, describing it as one of the highest recognitions from his people. He disclosed that over N400 billion had been invested in infrastructure across Ijaw areas, covering roads, bridges, schools and healthcare facilities, with assurances of more projects in the pipeline.
Key projects highlighted by the governor included the Bomadi–Gbaregolor Road, Ohoror-Bomadi Road, Oporoza township roads, internal roads in Patani and Ogulagha, as well as the ongoing Ayakoromo Bridge, all aimed at improving access and connectivity in riverine communities.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance, the governor stressed that no ethnic nationality in Delta State would be left behind, while appreciating the Ijaw nation for its steadfast support during the 2023 elections and subsequent legal battles.
“I remain grateful for the unwavering support of the Ijaw people, which strengthened me through challenging times. This endorsement is deeply appreciated and will not be taken for granted,” he said.
Also speaking, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, commended Oborevwori’s infrastructural drive in riverine areas, noting that difficult terrain should no longer hinder development. He urged sustained unity among the Ijaw people to boost their political relevance.
In his remarks, President of the INC, Benjamin Okaba, described the reception as a platform to appreciate the governor’s performance and deepen collaboration with the Delta State Government, while calling for more infrastructure in Ijaw communities.
The Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, earlier noted that the endorsement reflected the governor’s visible achievements in the region.
The event witnessed a massive turnout of dignitaries, including Senator Joel Thomas Onowakpo, traditional rulers, youth groups and women organisations, underscoring what stakeholders described as a rare unity of purpose within the Ijaw nation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
