TINUBU: NIGERIA HAS SURVIVED ECONOMIC TURBULENCE, GOVERNORS NO LONGER BORROW TO PAY SALARIES

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has weathered the economic difficulties that confronted his administration at inception, stating that state governors are no longer compelled to borrow funds from banks to pay workers’ salaries.
The President made the remark on Monday while hosting religious and traditional leaders to an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the gathering brought together leaders from across the country’s religious and traditional institutions.
President Tinubu said he remained grateful for the opportunity to lead the country and pledged to continue working diligently to sustain the current trajectory of economic recovery and national prosperity.
“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. And all I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty,” the President said.
He maintained that the nation’s economy had begun to recover from the difficulties encountered when his administration assumed office.
“I can report that the economy has turned the corner. It is getting better. Pensioners are getting their relief gradually. We have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy.
“It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today I can say with pride and joy that we have survived. No governor in this country is running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” Tinubu added.
The President also assured Nigerians that the government would not allow agents of instability to undermine the country’s peace, unity and sovereignty.
He acknowledged the crucial role religious and traditional leaders play in promoting moral values and stability within communities.
“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated. They leave trails of blood in their wake. But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well,” he stated.
Tinubu further reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in critical sectors such as agriculture and education to secure a better future for coming generations, urging Nigerians not to lose hope.
In his remarks, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, thanked the President for hosting leaders of the two major religions at the fast-breaking event, describing it as a symbol of national unity. He prayed for divine guidance, protection and peaceful coexistence across the country.
The monarch said he was representing the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and its President-General, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.
Also speaking, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria including its President, Daniel Okoh, and the President of Evangelical Church Winning All, Stephen Baba-Panya, assured the President of the church’s continued support for efforts aimed at transforming the economy and strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
Traditional rulers and religious leaders drawn from the six geopolitical zones of the country attended the event.
