OBOREVWORI HAILS DEDICATED WORKFORCE, UNVEILS STRATEGIC REFORMS AS DELTA MARKS CIVIL SERVICE WEEK

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the state workforce for their unwavering commitment, resilience, and professionalism, describing them as the backbone of governance and the driving force behind the successful implementation of his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
Governor Oborevwori made the remarks during the 2026 Delta State Public and Civil Service Week celebration, held at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, under the global theme: “Reforms, Resilience and Results.”
He was represented at the event by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme.
Addressing civil servants, the Governor noted that ideas and infrastructure alone amount to little without a motivated, secure, and committed workforce, stressing that public servants remain central to effective governance and service delivery.
He congratulated the workforce for their dedication to implementing government reforms and demonstrating resilience in the face of economic challenges, adding that their contributions continue to drive measurable progress across sectors in the state.
Describing the theme of the celebration as more than a slogan, Oborevwori said it represents a clarion call for structural and policy reforms, improved institutional efficiency, performance-based accountability, and a citizen-centred civil service driven by digital innovation.
The Governor also announced plans to introduce a new housing policy targeting both serving and retired civil servants, alongside enhanced funding for the Public Officers Housing Loan Scheme, as part of efforts to improve welfare and motivation within the workforce.
The Guest Lecturer, Dr. Caroline Ajuyah, in her presentation, urged government to prioritize the welfare of civil servants, warning that neglecting their needs could undermine reform efforts and lead to unintended backlash.
She emphasized that while reforms are essential for societal progress, their success depends largely on winning the trust and commitment of civil servants through genuine care and attention to their welfare.
In her remarks, the Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, expressed appreciation to the Governor for providing an enabling environment for the civil service to thrive. She also called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to complement the transport scheme initiated by her office to further support workers’ welfare and efficienc.
