Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday marked his 63rd birthday with a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, where he called on Deltans to continue praying for leaders, stressing that governance requires divine wisdom, guidance and strength.
The governor, who expressed profound gratitude to God for preserving his life and granting him the opportunity to serve the people of Delta State, said the occasion was more about thanksgiving than celebration.
Addressing worshippers during the service, Oborevwori noted that every achievement in life and leadership is made possible through God’s grace and mercy.
“We need God’s wisdom to lead. Pray for me, pray for Delta State and pray for all those in positions of authority. We need your prayers as we continue to serve our people,” the governor said.
He added that attaining the age of 63 was a testimony of God’s faithfulness, emphasizing that his decision to spend the day in worship and thanksgiving reflected his commitment to acknowledging God’s hand in his life and administration.
“I have come here to thank God for His goodness, protection and sustenance. The most important thing for me today is to appreciate God because He has kept me and guided me through every phase of life. Every other celebration is secondary,” he stated.
Governor Oborevwori also expressed appreciation to Deltans, political associates, friends and supporters for their goodwill and unwavering support over the years.
According to him, the confidence reposed in his administration continues to inspire him to work harder towards the development and prosperity of the state.
He assured residents that his government would remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy through the implementation of people-oriented projects and policies across the three senatorial districts.
The governor further commended the chaplaincy team of the Government House Chapel for their dedication and consistency in sustaining spiritual activities within Government House.
Earlier in his sermon titled, “What Is Your Prayer to God?”, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemenam, congratulated Governor Oborevwori on attaining the age of 63 and prayed for God’s continued guidance upon his life and administration.
Drawing his message from 1 Kings 3:7-12, the cleric highlighted the importance of seeking divine wisdom, citing King Solomon as an example of a leader whose request for wisdom pleased God and enabled him to govern effectively.
Venerable Osemenam noted that Governor Oborevwori had demonstrated qualities of peace, humility, inclusiveness and commitment to the development of Delta State, adding that such virtues reflected God’s grace upon his leadership.
He observed that leading a diverse state like Delta requires patience, understanding and divine direction, and prayed that God would continue to endow the governor with wisdom and strength to advance peace, unity and sustainable development across the state.
The thanksgiving service attracted family members, top government officials, political associates, traditional leaders, clergy and worshippers who joined the governor in celebrating the milestone and offering prayers for the continued success of his administration.
The event climaxed with the cutting of the birthday cake by Governor Oborevwori alongside his wife, members of the clergy and senior government functionaries.
