The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in partnership with the Delta State Government, has concluded arrangements to host a five-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening the English proficiency of teachers across the state.
The programme, tagged Strengthening Teacher English Proficiency (STEP), will bring together 150 teachers selected from the 25 local government areas of Delta State. It is designed to enhance teachers’ communication skills and improve classroom delivery, particularly in the teaching of English language.
According to organisers, the workshop will emphasise a transition from conventional, teacher-dominated methods to modern learner-centred approaches that encourage active participation by pupils in the learning process.
In a joint statement, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. (Barr.) Samuel Mariere, and the Director of Teacher Development Department, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, disclosed that the training is residential and scheduled to hold from February 9 to 13, 2026.
The workshop will take place at Peace Garden Hotel International, Igretakpere, Ughelli, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, with daily sessions commencing at 9:00 a.m.
The organisers noted that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the state to strengthen basic education delivery through continuous professional development of teachers.
