The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays in observance of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and conveyed through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
In his message, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country for the successful completion of Ramadan, urging them to uphold the values of love, peace, generosity, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the fasting period.
He further called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious beliefs, to use the festive period to offer prayers for national unity, peace, and sustained prosperity.
While wishing Muslims a joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening unity and promoting peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
