No Compromise on Standards: Oborevwori Storms Road Projects, Sets Deadline for Completion

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has restated his administration’s zero-tolerance for substandard work as he carried out on-the-spot inspections of the ongoing Ugbolu–Okpanam Road and the Phase Two section of the Oko-Anala–Oko-Ogbele–Oko-Odifili Road projects.
During the inspection of the 12.12-kilometre Ugbolu–Okpanam Road, the Governor said the visit was part of his hands-on leadership approach, stressing that government must go beyond paperwork to physically verify progress on critical projects. He noted that monitoring and follow-up were as important as flag-off and commissioning ceremonies.
Oborevwori explained that the project, conceived after persistent complaints of mobility challenges from residents along the corridor, was designed with extensive concrete drainage on both sides to address long-standing flooding problems in the area. According to him, the drainage infrastructure would safely channel excess water into nearby rivers and bring lasting relief to communities prone to seasonal flooding.
He disclosed that although the contract duration was originally set at 18 months, the contractor had assured the state government of completion by December this year. The Governor described the road as economically and socially strategic, linking Ugbolu and Okpanam communities while strengthening interaction between urban and semi-urban areas.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development, Oborevwori said his administration was deliberately spreading infrastructure projects across urban and rural areas to ensure balanced growth across the state.
At the Oko-Anala–Oko-Ogbele–Oko-Odifili Road site, the Governor expressed concern over the pace of work on Phase Two of the project, which covers about five kilometres. He explained that the difficult terrain required extensive excavation of unsuitable clay soil to guarantee durability, warning that failure to properly stabilise the base would compromise the lifespan of the road.
Rejecting an initial completion timeline of August 2027 proposed by the contractor, the Governor insisted on accelerated work, assuring residents that funding was not an issue as the contractor had been fully mobilised.
He urged contractors handling government projects to deliver quality jobs within agreed timelines, noting that future engagements would depend strictly on performance.
Reiterating his administration’s core philosophy, Oborevwori declared that standards would not be compromised, adding that only contractors who deliver durable and timely projects would continue to enjoy the confidence of the Delta State Government.
