SWAN Condoles Nigeria Aquatics Federation Over Demise of Aquatic Sports President, Chief Dunkwu

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commiserated with the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) following the death of its President, Chief Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu.
Chief Dunkwu reportedly passed away on Saturday, a development that has drawn sympathy from stakeholders across the Nigerian sporting community.
In a condolence letter dated March 7, 2026, addressed to the Executive Board of the federation, SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, described the news of Dunkwu’s death as shocking and a painful loss to the entire sports fraternity.
The letter, signed by SWAN Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, noted that the late sports administrator demonstrated remarkable leadership and unwavering commitment to the development of aquatic sports in Nigeria.
“The news of his demise came as a profound shock and a painful loss not only to the Federation but also to the entire Nigerian sporting community,” the letter stated.
SWAN further noted that during his brief tenure as President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Dunkwu worked tirelessly to promote aquatic disciplines in the country, inspiring athletes and administrators while strengthening the foundation of aquatic sports.
According to the association, his passion, vision and service to Nigerian sports have left a lasting legacy that would continue to guide the federation in years to come.
“At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Executive Board, members of the Federation, his family and all who had the privilege of working with him. May God grant everyone the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss, and may his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
Ironically, Chief Dunkwu died on the same day the federation had scheduled a talent discovery programme tagged “Swim To The Future.” He was elected President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation only a few months ago.
