Outcry in Ughelli as Residents Demand Probe into Attack on Elderly Cleric, Wife

Concerned residents and members of the public have called on the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to commence a thorough investigation into the reported assault on an elderly cleric and his wife in Ughelli.
The victims, including a minister of the Assemblies of God Church, were allegedly attacked by yet-to-be-identified uniformed men, an incident that has stirred widespread concern and demands for justice.
A video currently circulating on social media captures the moment the cleric, later identified as Reverend Anthony Akasa, and his wife were assaulted during a church service on Sunday, April 12. The footage shows more than five young men dressed in uniform descending on the couple.
Eyewitness visuals indicate that the resident pastor of Ughelli Area One and his wife were overpowered as the assailants physically assaulted them and discharged a substance suspected to be teargas into their faces, leaving them visibly distressed and helpless.
In a separate video, a woman who identified herself as a daughter of the victims alleged that the attackers were deliberately sent to target her parents and brother, further heightening concerns over the motive behind the incident.
Although the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, the development has triggered public condemnation, with residents of Ughelli urging the police to swiftly track down the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.
