In a bold move aimed at repositioning grassroots football development, the Delta State Football Association (DFA) has concluded plans, in partnership with FPG Technologies & Solutions Ltd, to train over 40 coaches across the state in Confederation of African Football (CAF) certification courses by May 2026.
The landmark initiative was disclosed in Asaba by the DFA Chairman, Chief Godwin Adode, during an award presentation ceremony held in honour of the Chief Executive Officer of FPG Technologies & Solutions Ltd, Engineer Rex Ugochukwu Mafiana.
Adode, who described the programme as a “transformational pathway” for football growth in the state, emphasized that the training would significantly upgrade the technical competence of local coaches, aligning them with modern coaching standards and global best practices.
According to him, “This partnership is a deliberate step towards building capacity and ensuring that our coaches are not left behind in the evolving dynamics of the game. CAF certification is not just a badge of honour; it equips coaches with the tactical intelligence, discipline, and contemporary methodologies required to develop players effectively.”
He further noted that the initiative would create a ripple effect across the football ecosystem in Delta State, improving player development, team organization, and overall competitiveness at both grassroots and elite levels.
The DFA boss reserved special praise for Engineer Mafiana, describing him as “a pillar of grassroots football development and a committed advocate of youth empowerment through sports.” He lauded the FPG boss for his consistent investment in football initiatives, his unwavering support for local talents, and his vision to use technology and structured development programmes as tools for sporting excellence.
“Engineer Mafiana has demonstrated uncommon passion and dedication. His contributions go beyond sponsorship; he has continued to champion initiatives that nurture young talents, empower coaches, and strengthen the foundation of football in Delta State. This recognition is well deserved.”
In his response, Engineer Rex Ugochukwu Mafiana expressed deep appreciation to the DFA for the honour, reaffirming his company’s commitment to the development of football in the state.
He stated that the decision to partner with the DFA was driven by his firm belief in human capital development and the critical role of education in sports advancement.
