The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman, as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori charged the newly inaugurated State Working Committee (SWC) to commence immediate groundwork for a sweeping victory in the 2027 general elections.
Arenyeka emerged through consensus at the Delta APC State Congress held Tuesday at the Cenotaph in Asaba. Elder Moses Iduh was elected Deputy Chairman, while Chief Efe Uko clinched the position of State Secretary.
Also elected by affirmation were Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central Chairman), Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Delta South Chairman), Engr. Daniel Ossai (Delta North Chairman), Elder Emmanuel Egbabor (State Organising Secretary), Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo (State Publicity Secretary), Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie (State Woman Leader), and Christopher Agali (State Youth Leader), among others.
Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, declared the executive duly elected following their affirmation by delegates, noting that the process complied strictly with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
In a significant prelude to the election, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing State Working Committee, a motion seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and unanimously adopted by delegates.
Addressing party faithful, Governor Oborevwori expressed appreciation to the outgoing executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie for navigating what he described as a defining transition period following the April 2025 political realignment in the state.
He described the congresses conducted across the 270 wards and 25 local government areas as peaceful and reflective of the party’s internal democracy, emphasizing that the emergence of the new leadership was rooted in consultation and inclusiveness rather than imposition.
The governor tasked the new executive to deepen grassroots mobilization, institutionalize regular strategy meetings, and strengthen voter engagement structures across the state ahead of 2027.
Oborevwori declared that the party’s mission was clear to secure victory at all levels, from the presidency to the State House of Assembly expressing confidence that Delta APC would deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all party candidates.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and performance under the MORE Agenda, highlighting ongoing strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, agriculture, security, and human capital development.
Outgoing Chair Urges Humility, Unity
Immediate past chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the congress as a triumph of unity and collective sacrifice, urging the new leadership to govern with humility and place the interest of the people above personal ambition. He expressed optimism that the APC in Delta State remains formidable and well-positioned to outmatch any opposition in the coming electoral cycle.
In his acceptance speech, Arenyeka thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him and members of the new SWC, assuring that they would justify the mandate entrusted to them.
He pledged to uphold the values of integrity, teamwork, transparency, and consensus-building, while consolidating party structures across the state. He also paid tribute to Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, promising that under his watch, Delta APC would become a benchmark for party organization nationwide.
The congress, attended by party leaders and stakeholders from across the state, ended on a celebratory note, signaling what party faithful described as the formal launch of Delta APC’s 2027 electoral campaign machinery
