Super Falcons Line Up Cameroon Friendlies Ahead of Morocco 2026 WAFCON

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will take on long-time rivals, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, in two international friendly matches as part of preparations for the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be hosted by Morocco.
The encounters are scheduled to hold in Yaoundé during the FIFA Women’s International Window between February 24 and March 7, 2026. The first match will be played on Saturday, February 28, with the second fixture billed for Tuesday, March 3.
The friendly ties are aimed at fine-tuning the Super Falcons ahead of the continental showpiece, where Nigeria will defend their title as reigning champions and Africa’s most successful women’s football nation.
Both sides last met in a pre-tournament friendly ahead of the previous WAFCON, also staged in Morocco, where Nigeria secured a convincing 2–0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta.
Confirming the fixtures, Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, said all arrangements had been concluded in collaboration with Cameroon’s football authorities.
He noted that the friendly matches form part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to ensure the Super Falcons are fully prepared to retain their continental crown and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
On his part, FECAFOOT General Secretary, Isaac Mandong, expressed delight at hosting the Nigerian team, describing the fixtures as an opportunity to strengthen sporting ties between both countries.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the 13th edition of the Women Africa Cup of Nations will run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, in Morocco. The four semi-finalists at the tournament will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Nigeria go into the competition as defending champions after clinching their historic 10th WAFCON title in Morocco last summer, overcoming Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and hosts Morocco en route to lifting the trophy.
The Super Falcons remain Africa’s benchmark in women’s football and will be looking to use the Cameroon friendlies to reinforce their dominance on the continent.
