Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday attributed the achievements of his administration in the last three years to the grace, mercy and wisdom of God, declaring that prudent financial management and divine guidance had remained the driving force behind the state’s development strides.
The governor stated this during the 2026 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
Speaking before an array of political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, clerics, stakeholders and residents of the state, Oborevwori said the celebration was organised to appreciate God for His faithfulness since the inception of the administration on May 29, 2023.
According to him, the journey of governance over the past three years had been “eventful, exciting and enlightening,” noting that his administration had remained committed to delivering people-oriented programmes and infrastructural projects aimed at improving the living standards of Deltans.
He stressed that despite prevailing economic challenges, Delta State had continued to execute projects across the state without borrowing funds from any financial institution.
“Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our sight. I remain eternally grateful to God for finding me worthy to serve the people of Delta State in this capacity,” the governor stated.
Oborevwori explained that every contract awarded by his administration was backed with available funds, assuring contractors of prompt fulfilment of obligations by the government.
“We are here to thank God for the wisdom to execute development projects all over the state without borrowing a kobo from anybody or bank. Every contract that we give out, the money is available. We have constantly discharged our obligations to our contractors,” he added.
The governor also expressed gratitude to God for the peace and security being enjoyed in Delta State, describing peace as the bedrock of development and investment.
He commended security agencies for their commitment to maintaining law and order across the state while acknowledging the contributions of past governors, including Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for laying the foundation upon which his administration continues to build.
Oborevwori equally appreciated the support of the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, the Delta State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, political appointees and other stakeholders for their collective role in the progress of the state.
Calling for sustained unity among Deltans, the governor urged citizens to continue supporting the administration as it moves into the concluding phase of its first tenure.
“Delta State is our home. We don’t have any other state. What is important is how we come together to build this state. With unity, Delta will continue to move forward and become an envy of other states,” he said.
Earlier in his sermon titled “Ever Increasing Progress,” renowned cleric, Apostle Joshua Selman, emphasised that true and lasting progress could only be achieved through a genuine relationship with God.
He commended Delta State for sustaining the culture of thanksgiving and prayed for continued prosperity, peace and development in the state.
The cleric outlined seven biblical principles for sustained progress, including abiding in Christ, humility, courage, strategic relationships, continuous learning, avoiding distractions and maintaining a lifestyle of thanksgiving.
Selman also praised Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructural development and project delivery, encouraging both leaders and citizens to remain focused despite challenges and criticisms.
Highlights of the event included scripture reading by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and soul-lifting praise ministrations by gospel artistes such as Dunsin Oyekan, Moses Bliss, Asu Ekiye, Solomon Urete, M & Revelation, Jerry Ekpekuro and Solo Kings.
A symbolic moment at the gathering was the cutting of the third anniversary cake to commemorate the administration’s three years in office.
Dignitaries at the event included former governors Chief James Ibori and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone, members of the House of Representatives including Francis Waive, Jonathan Ukodhiko and Nnamdi Ezechi, among other distinguished guests.
