The Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the successful hosting of the State Economic Summit, describing the initiative as a major step towards attracting investment, creating employment and accelerating economic growth across the state.
The traditional rulers gave the commendation in a three-point communiqué issued after their monthly meeting and delivered by the Chairman of the Council and Orodje of Okpe, Major General Felix Mujakpuerou (rtd), Orhue 1.
The monarchs said the successful outcome of the economic summit had further demonstrated the enormous investment potential of Delta State, stressing that the opportunities available could position the state as a preferred destination for investors.
They also congratulated Governor Oborevwori and the people of Delta State on the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The Council urged Deltans to remain committed to the development of the state and support government policies and programmes aimed at promoting socio-economic growth and delivering greater dividends of democracy.
The traditional rulers noted that Delta had witnessed significant development over the past 35 years, calling for sustained cooperation between the people and government to consolidate the gains recorded.
The monarchs also commended the state government for its prompt intervention in supporting Deltans evacuated from South Africa following violent xenophobic attacks against foreigners.
According to them, the assistance provided by the government would help alleviate the difficulties faced by the returnees and facilitate their reintegration into society.
The meeting was attended by traditional rulers from across the state, including the Second Vice Chairman of the Council and Obi of Ubulu-Unor, Agbogidi Henry Kikachukwu I, and the immediate past Chairman of the Council and Obi of Owa Kingdom, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, among others.
