ASABA — The Delta State capital, Asaba, is set to play host to thousands of police officers from across the country as preparations intensify for the forthcoming Biennial Police Games, an event expected to blend competitive sports with renewed focus on discipline, unity and operational fitness within the Force.
The multi-sport fiesta, organised by the Nigeria Police Force, will bring together athletes from various police commands to compete in events including football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, handball, combat sports and indoor games.
Key sporting venues in the state capital, led by the iconic Stephen Keshi Stadium, have undergone upgrades and inspections to meet required standards, while auxiliary facilities are being fine-tuned to ensure smooth competition and athlete welfare.
Speaking ahead of the games, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, described the Police Games as a critical platform for strengthening esprit de corps, improving physical readiness and discovering talents capable of representing the Force at national and international levels.
According to him, the games go beyond medals and trophies, serving as a tool for stress management and teamwork among officers tasked with safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
Delta State authorities have assured participants and visitors of adequate security, efficient logistics and a hospitable environment throughout the duration of the event. Officials noted that hosting the games would also boost local commerce, hospitality and youth engagement in sports.
As contingents prepare to converge on Asaba, expectations are high that the Police Games will deliver not only thrilling sporting action but also reinforce professionalism and unity within the Nigeria Police Force.
The games will hold from 14th to 21st, February 2026.
